Marimba music is one of the most beautiful things I’ve encountered here in El Salvador. Something about the sound of the mallets hitting the long wooden bars is really enchanting. At a town festival in Yepecoyo I saw this great group of young guys jammin out for the crowd. It started to rain shortly after, but they never skipped a beat.

Many Salvadorans have told me that learning marimba in school is something kids do here from a very young age. There is a lot of pride and tradition in each pling pling of the mallet. The instrument is famous throughout Central America but is said to have roots in El Salvador and Guatamala. Really really beautiful sounds, hear for yourself…
